Enigmail is a data encryption and decryption extension for Mozilla Thunderbird and the Postbox that provides OpenPGP public key e-mail encryption and signing. Enigmail works under Microsoft Windows, Unix-like, and Mac OS X operating systems. Enigmail is currently available in two versions, 2.1.x and 2.2.x: Enigmail 2.1.x only works with Thunderbird 68 and older release versions, and provides the classic functionality. Enigmail version 2.2.x is a specially modified version, which only works with Thunderbird 78 and later version. Since Tails 4.13 (November 2020), Thunderbird 78 replaces the Enigmail extension with built-in support for OpenPGP encryption. If you used Enigmail before Tails 4.13, follow the instructions below to migrate from Enigmail to Thunderbird 78. Tails does not include Enigmail 2.2, the last version of the extension, which automates this migration. See also the official OpenPGP in Thunderbird.
